Giving Back to the Community. 2010 was the year that Doctor Gary Glick made it his mission to give back to the community,
and his team was more than happy to get on board. In these difficult economic times, Gary Glick D.D.S. has been a beacon of hope to many.

February was Children’s dental health month and Doctor Glick’s hygienist, Melissa Obrotka, visited area schools to share her vast knowledge with kindergarten and pre-school classes. The children learned about proper oral hygiene and nutrition through a wonderfully interactive program, which included costumes, puppets and a Dora the Explorer story time. Every child received a “goody bag” filled with dental supplies.

April was Oral Cancer Awareness month and Doctor Glick performed Oral Cancer Screenings for all new adult patients, at no cost. Unfortunately, oral cancer diagnosis is on the rise and early detection is key to a positive prognosis.

In June, Millie, Diana, Melissa, Brenna and Nicole participated in the Annual George Washington Bridge Challenge to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. A few patients “walked” the walk as well, and Doctor Glick is hoping to spread the word and make this a yearly event to raise money for a great cause. Watch your local newspaper to get involved!

In October the annual West Milford Autumn Lights Festival took place with record breaking attendance. Doctor Glick and his team hung out a “shingle”, set up a booth and gave away free oral cancer screenings, coupons for office visits and a raffle for a free teeth whitening. Best of all, Doc treated all who stopped by to his famous brownies! The team really appreciated the great weather, friends old and new and a chance to tell everyone (with all due respect to our grandparents!) this isn’t your grandmother’s dentistry!!

Also in October Doctor Glick’s office had their second annual Halloween Candy Buy Back a few days after Halloween. During this event, children brought in their extra candy and one of Doc’s team weighed it. Doctor G. gave the children a dollar for every pound, a goody bag of dental supplies and also a chance to win an ipod. The donated candy was then boxed up and sent to Operation Gratitude out in California, and then on to individual troops serving our country in the military. Over two hundred pounds of candy was donated, for the second year! As Doctor Glick described it…. “A little taste of home from those who appreciate all they are sacrificing for us.”

In November, Brownie Troop #1033 visited with Diana and Millie at Doctor Glick’s office. Diana instructed the very eager children, about oral hygiene and nutrition. Their favorite part of the afternoon was getting a chance to have a picture taken with the intra oral camera and seeing the inner workings of the dental office. Diana sent them home with a “goody bag” and many fun memories.

In November, Doc and crew traveled to Las Vegas Nevada to attend the annual Maddow Brothers Dental Seminar. Dentistry is always evolving, and because Doctor Glick only wants the best for all of his patients, he and his team look forward to attending continuing education classes throughout the year. Over a period of three days, the team listened to dozens of the best speakers from all around the country. New materials, procedures and team building experiences are something that they look forward to, every year. Not all of the speakers are connected to the dental world, and this past November there was one speaker who stole the “show” with his own personal story of growth through hardship. Richard Simmons was the final speaker and had the crowd of thousands up on their feet, cheering. He motivated the team to be their “Best Selves” and as Doctor G. put it “Richard was the icing on the cake!!”
